Governor Corbett and Legislative Leaders,
I am writing to voice my concern about the
drastic reductions in education funding that will have a dramatic impact on the educational
programs in the William Penn School District. The present proposed state budget
decreases our revenues by more than $5.4 million. Combine this with a $300,000 loss
in tax revenue, a $400,000 reduction in federal funding and rising expenditures of
about $3.2 million, the William Penn School District is faced with a budget gap of
more than $9 million. Because we receive approximately 38% of our revenue from the
state budget, some of the budget cut options we are facing include elimination and/or
reduction in staff, educational programs, busing for students in grades 7-
Governor Corbett's proposed cuts to public schools will undermine the progress Pennsylvania
has made over the past eight years in improving education and will result in local
property tax hikes that local homeowners should not have to bear. Please adopt a
budget that maintains state funding levels for public school education. Pennsylvania
has a constitutional obligation to ensure a quality public education for our children.
Please don't turn your back on our public school children and local taxpayers.
Sincerely,
Filling out this form and clicking submit will send this letter to the Governor and the WPSD State Representatives and Senators.
